"Android Nougat" - Google announced the official name of Android N

Finally, the suspense, curiosity, and the hype for the name of Android 7 or Android N came to an end. On 30th June 2016, Google officially announced its 7th version of its Android Operating System. The much awaited Android N is now named as “Android Nougat”. Check out the official video Android Nougat Statue Unwrapping.

There was a much hype created around the world for this name search. Also, a few days ago, Google jokingly confirmed Android N name as Namey McNameface. (Read my earlier blog covering this topic: http://hiren-it-consultant.blogspot.in/2016/06/google-android-n-namey-mcnameface.html)

A worldwide campaign was executed in which the Google fans participated with lots of enthusiasm. After revealing this name, hearts of many fans were broken into pieces, especially from India. Earlier in May Google invited their fans to suggest the names for Android N. And the response was flooded with the sweet treats named Neyaappam, Nankhatai, Nutella, Newyork cheesecake and to the surprise, there was the massive response from Indians. And finally, it came with the name as Nougat which is a hard chewy white or pink sweet food, usually containing nuts.

Currently, Google is headed by an Indian CEO Sundar Pichai, and thus many fans thought that company would name its new version with an Indian dessert. The most hyped name was Neyaappam which is traditional South Indian delicacy from Kerala. Several campaigns were run to vote for this name on the website androidneyyappam.com. This website even suggested the logo somewhat similar to this dessert dish.

The release for the Android N was initially announced in March 2016, and this current beta which is likely said to be stable is up with the improved notification, emoji’s, split-screen multitasking, security, interactive assistance service, better battery life and also revamped the feature of Doze which came in the previous year of Marshmallow update. And it also has the feature of Daydream which will be only supported for the day-dream handsets. Soon these features will be rolling in all the Android smartphones. It is said that the next nexus phone will be based on Android N.

Google jokingly confirms Android N name as Namey McNameface

As we all know, Android N still doesn’t have a name but seeing the past names, some intuitions do tell us that, “ N” will stand for some sort of sweet eateries right?

Recently, in the latest developer preview version of Android N, the name scheme took a new U turn. Android Authority reported that, if you tap on version option of Android N –located on settings, you will notice an “N” as a big letter with the name Namey McNameface.

This name was used with the reference from the past Boaty McBoatface name. This name was chosen for the British by the public #200 million research vessel in April. But at the end ship was named as Sir David Attenborough. That ship became very much popular as it operated undersea vehicle.

But do you really believe, Google would name its next version as “Namey Mcnameface”? Google is in too much love with the sweet treats, so still the perfect name is not yet knows. 

The next Android N is expected to arrive in august or September, bringing the split screen mode, seamless OTA updates, new emoji’s, data saving mode and much more. You can download the latest version preview from the website.

Biggest Announcements from Google I/O 2016

At this Google I/O year, Google has made a wide appearance with the latest technology. Google is packed with the several new announcements for this year.

Here are overall biggest announcements made by Google I/O 2016:

Google Home

To enrich the user experience, Google will launch its Home speaker later in this year. This will give control of the connected devices in the home and also user can voice control their speaker. The entire function is performed solely with the voice commands, hence, buttons are not available. Even user is facilitated to do integration with the third party services that will allow performing other actions like doing the reservation in restaurant or making a call to book a taxi.

Google Assistance

User will experience a more impressive voice search option with Google Assistance which supports “conversational understanding” feature. Countless possibilities are provided with this improved voice search feature that will continue to perform the search without missing a single beat.

Google Allo

Allo is a new messaging app from Google that includes several new features which keep it apart from its top rival like the Facebook messaging app. Loaded with exciting features, this app features a whisper/shout feature which basically control the font size of the text message using the slider. If user feels to capitalize all letters or shrink their text size, then this can be performed using the slider.

Smart replies is another cool feature where the responses to the conversations or an image are scanned to reduce extra typing work. Users are also allowed to open their chat in an incognito tab where all messages will be encrypted. Additionally, user gets facility of end-to-end encryption and self-destruction of messages

Another exciting feature includes bot support. This means users are allowed to use multiple bots within the app without quitting the Google chat. Also included is a Google Assistance bot to perform a search in the chat.

Of course bot support is also available. From right within the app, users can interact with a wide range of bots. For example, an OpenTable bot will allow users to choose a restaurant and book a reservation without ever leaving an Allo chat. And of course, there’s also a Google Assistant search bot. Want to search for a cute cat GIF from within a chat? No problem. This app is available for both Android and iOS.

Google DUO

To boost the feature of Google Allo messaging app by adding video calling facility, Google DUO app is available with many smart features. Talking about the Knock Knock feature, user can easily view incoming video call details before answering the call. Also, user can easily switch their data connectivity between Wi-Fi and Cellular. The video quality will be managed automatically according to the bandwidth strength. This app is available for both Android and iOS.

Google Android N

Now a major update will be released later this year is an Android N mobile software. An enormously important feature included in this major improvement is performance and graphics. This ensures the smooth running of the device. The Vulcan software is used for performance improvement for graphics, whereas software is optimized to boost the performance.

A smart feature available by Android will be auto removal of the apps from the UI if they are no longer needed. So, if a user is looking for any app then they can easily find it on the screen. A Quick search filter is available to search an app quickly. Android N improves its security by implementing block-based encryption. Also, the user will get the updates automatically download and installed.

Android N will support spilt screen apps feature for phones and tablets where the picture in picture facility is available only for Android TV. User can directly reply to the notification from the direct reply feature. It will also support Unicode 9 emoji and support all skin tones. The beta version of the Android N is already pushed out, however, the Android N will be released later this summer.

Android Wear 2.0

A big release by Google is the Android Wear 2.0 that can work independently without a smartphone. This means a user will get the details without ever require to connect their app with the smartphone. The data will be updated as long as the smartphone is connected to the internet either by Wi-Fi or Cellular.

Google Daydream

An all new Virtual Reality platform is available known as Google Daydream. This VR based platform is designed to standardize the mobile-based experience. Google plans to create a reference design for controller and VR headset.

Instant Apps

With the instant apps facility, the user can directly start using an app within the Google Play store without downloading and installing the app.
