Google offers tool to bridge Android and iOS app development

Recently, the Google released the tool with the aim to make it easier to port the software between two major smartphone platforms, by converting Java code for Android into Objective-C code that can be compiled to run on Apple iOS devices.

Google’s Tom Ball in a post announcing the tool declared that J2ObjC is not a Java emulator but instead converts a Java classes to Objective-C classes that directly use the iOS Foundation Framework.

The tool doesn’t claim to make writing mobile apps a completely cross-platform affair. Developers who use it to translate their apps will still need to write the UI code in Objective-C using Apple’s iOS SDK. However, the developers can code their core non-UI functionality in Java, then compile versions of those portions of their apps for both Android and iOS from the single code base, rather than maintaining a separate code tree for each platform.

In fact, Ball revealed that they can use the same Java code to develop the web-based versions of their apps using the Google Web Toolkit, which can translate Java Code into JavaScript to run in the browser. Code functionality would remain same for all versions because they would be based on the same source code. Google also revealed that j2objc works with the most build tools, including Xcode and the translation from Java to Objective-C, is totally automated. No additional editing of the tool is necessary.

J2ObjC supports the full Java 6 language and the key runtime features include exceptions, generic types, threads, reflection and their anonymous classes. It even does the perfect job of modeling Java-style memory management in Objective-C.

To build and use the system, developers will need a machine running Mac OS X 10.7 or higher with Xcode 4 or higher and JDK 1.6. As for now, the project is running between alpha and beta quality with the initial release given number 0.8 as an indication of its release status.

Google makes it easier to switch from iOS to Android with Google Drive backup tool.

In the Play Store, Apple has a switch tool which helps the Android users to switch to iOS. Unlike Google, this would be approved by the Apple bots in the App Store. With this, one can take the backup of your iPhone data to Drive, then restore it all on Android.

One can check out the new backup option in the iOS Drive app which is found under menu > settings > backup. On uploading all the backup on the Drive, it can grab your contacts, calendar events, and photos/videos. If you have lot of media files with more GB’s it will obviously take a lot more time to upload. For that Wi-Fi is needed for the backup to take place and the Drive app has to stay open. Unfortunately, there’s no option for backup.

The data from iOS will automatically be accessible in the corresponding apps, when one logs into their Google Account on a new Android phone. Unlike Pixel exclusive cable transfer tool, this process works with any Android phone.

4 Reasons to buy Google Pixel

Google is recently up with its all new Pixel smartphones. The traditional days of the Nexus upgrades are gone. Instead, a new device - Google Pixel is much similar to a premium headset with the thoughtful design. It is integrated with some heavyweight features, the best camera, and unlimited media storage. But is it worth a money?

Camera
The most amazing thing about this phone is its overall DxOMark Mobile score of 89, which is considered as the biggest score in the smartphone industry. Previous Nexus headsets have struggled quite a lot in the camera ecosystem, veering from very good to quite average. It has 12.3MP snapper and captures great back-lit scenes. It is quite impressive that HDR is turned on by default and doesn’t have any shutter lag. The quality of the picture, noise reduction, and color reproduction that all looked impressive.

Assistant
Google Assistant is a traditional one but is dressed up with the entire new entity. This re-brand makes a great personal assistant with the much better functionality. It is enhanced by holding a 2-way conversation. So if you ask a question such as “What restaurants are nearby?” Assistant will deliver. But it’ll also let you ask to follow up questions, like “which one is very near,” “reserve a table for me” and then “navigate me to that restaurant,” which then brings up Maps. The more you interact, the more assistant learns about your habits and customize its answers.

Free unlimited Photo storage
It is the fact that Pixel owners would get the free unlimited drive storage photos which are a huge boon. This is one of the amazing things who always cry out loud just for the sake of memory.

Faster Charging
It has got the fastest charging than most of the phones. It claims that the phone will last 7 hours on a 15-minute charge obviously it depends on the use of the phone, but overall it takes pride in charging. The thing is, its battery life is XL. 6P had a poor battery life. Hopefully, it is not same with Pixel.

Conclusion
The improved design is the quiet classy with the great camera. It is obvious that unlimited storage doesn’t come cheap. The most expensive model cost $819 which is similar to the iPhone7.

Google is working on a MacBook killer with a special breed of Android

Google has recently started the campaign where the pixels of the smartphones can be seen. But Google is not planning to announce in the early phase of the October. The vital thing that the company undertakes is Andromeda operating system, a merger between Android and Chrome OS.

Andromeda is not a proper name, but rather one can say it is an internal codename for initial process, which would represent the major shift in the Android strategy. Google will be able to make out the best from both the worlds and release other types of Android devices, which also incorporates better laptops and tablets. The news was revealed that the first laptop running Andromeda will come out the next summer.

As per the report, it was said that the Android Police will release the Pixel3 laptop and is set to arrive in the third quarter of 2017. Internally the project is called as Bison and laptop would be the first showcase on the Android Google.

Android Police quotes that, “Bison then would be a culmination of years work by Google’s Pixel team and Google’s Android and Chrome OS teams”.

For now, the specifications of Bison includes a 12.3-inch display with the touch support, Intel m3 or i5 Core processors, 32GB to 128GB storage, 8GB to 16GB RAM, finger print scanner, USB C-connectivity, 3.5mm headphone jack, stylus support, stereo speakers, quad microphones, backlit keyboards and more. It also has 10mm thickness which made it a 12-inch MacBook.

The most important thing about the Bison is that, it sell for just $799, according to the information available to the Android Police a time. The scenario would be different after some years and there are the chances that Google could even cancel the product. But this MacBook seems to be quite interesting.

Google Play on Windows, Mac OS, and Linux?

Recently some Chrome OS code surfaced that proposed the Google Play Store would bring "millions" of Android applications to Chrome OS. Google has tried different things with Android applications on Chrome OS, however now it appears to be ready to unleash the full gathering of Android applications onto the "program just" working framework. There's no official word from Google on how this will play out, however, the very design of Google's Android applications on Chrome OS execution opens some intriguing potential outcomes.

The element is conceivable due to the "Application Runtime for Chrome (ARC)," a venture that executes the Android runtime on top of Chrome's "Local Client" augmentation design. Local Client is a Chrome sandboxing innovation that was outlined in light of execution and versatility, permitting modules to keep running at "close local" paces by exploiting the framework's CPU and GPU. Bend made a major stride a year ago when it included backing for the Google Play Services APIs, which numerous Play Store applications rely on upon to work.

The Play Store on Chrome OS would open Google Play applications to another structure variable (ghastly Android portable PCs in any case), yet it could likewise be the tip of the chunk of ice. Keep in mind, ARC is only a Chrome augmentation, so it works all around desktop Chrome works. On the off chance that the full Google Play Store comes to ARC, it would be feasible for it to chip away at Chrome OS, as well as Chrome's other host desktop working frameworks: Windows, OS X, and Linux.

We could take a gander at a Trojan steed. Imagine a scenario in which Chrome OS is only the test stage, with an arrangement to inevitably unleash Google Play on each other desktop stage later on. Each processing gadget today is a piece of an environment play, so imagine a scenario in which Google's biological community could do fight with Apple and Microsoft all alone stages.

On the off chance that Play comes to Chrome OS, a move to each real desktop OS would positively be actually conceivable. The principal form of ARC was misleadingly constrained to Chrome OS, however a hack seemed only nine days after it propelled that empowered it to chip away at Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. Google's authentic "Bend Welder" application now gives anybody a chance to bundle a current Android APK up as a Chrome augmentation that will take a shot at any desktop stage.

There's likewise the conceivable gossip of Chrome and Android "converging" into another desktop OS. It's a wild gossip, yet it comes specifically from The Wall Street Journal. What's more, if the paper wasn't right, it would be the first occasion when it flubbed a major Google gossip. It's anything but difficult to envision Google Play on Chrome is a piece of this assumed gossip, however, this is a different venture that accompanies Google's inclination to expand and fabricate two of everything. The Chrome/Android bits of gossip are about making an Android-based desktop working framework. In that venture, Google would fabricate the framework UI and each other part of the working framework starting from the earliest stage. Google Play as a Chrome augmentation is more about having Google Play assuming control others' desktop stage. It's like Google's application technique now, where Google makes its own particular versatile working framework, however, you can likewise get Google's bunch applications on iOS.

Taking a "major picture" perspective of things, a move like this could be a piece of a procedure to make Android applications take a shot at each gadget possible. Today Android applications take a shot at watches, telephones, tablets, autos, and TVs. Include the maximum capacity of the Google Play Chrome expansion, and Android applications additionally keep running on Chrome OS, Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. Jab around in the talk factory and there are even a couple of more conceivable structure variables coming: various reports have asserted Google is building an exceptional form of Android for VR headsets. We've even seen indications of Android turning into a VR stage in Android N. There's likewise the previously stated Android-based desktop OS. In the event that these all work out into real items, that is a ton of structure components that would be perfect with Android.

That would be a staggering pitch for designers. Compose for Google Play and you'll be focusing on each major working framework for each structure element, spare iOS. Obviously, you wouldn't have any desire to quite recently indiscriminately run telephone applications on everything. Designers would even now be urged to utilize the same center application code on each stage, in addition, to fabricating a couple of custom interfaces for the significant structure elements. The test for Google would get engineers to really make these custom interfaces for each stage, which is something it hasn't possessed the capacity to do with Android tablets. It's been such an issue, to the point that Google has attempted to work around this for a portion of the more current Android stages: on Android Auto and Android Wear, Google assembles the interface and designers simply connect their information to the system. Regardless of the possibility that Google can't motivate engineers to play along, the uplifting news for desktops is that telephone applications really aren't that terrible when you can place them in a skimming window.

So if Google Play ever comes to Chrome OS, watch out. It could be a play for an antagonistic biological community takeover of each significant desktop working framework. Google has been building Native Client and ARC for a long while. Presently the organization needs to choose on the off chance that it needs to push the catch.

Mobile Apps development - In-house or Outsource?

Today, in an internet connected era, mobile application development is just bounded with the developers or the players, novice people, startups, small-sized business has also begun with the development of applications. Since the mobile was developed, one can definitely say that mobile technology has propelled a long way. If you feel that customized application can help your business, next step you need to choose is that, by which means you will go for the development of the application.

If you work for the small sized business, the organization can appoint the external specialist source to develop the application from you. If you choose to work for the huge organization, in-house is quite better as it offers a number of benefits. You can keep a watch and make changes whenever you need. In almost every comparison, it makes more business sense to utilize a faithful, outside mobility expert to construct your application instead of keeping it in-house, even for huge enterprises.

Mobile Apps development: In-house

Advantages
  • Manage the whole project very efficiently
  • You can save extra pennies by using the present resources
  • You can put up with extra resources, for the faster development
  • No worries about who owns a source code
  • You will always have the options for the developers that exactly knows your requirement
  • You can select the best technology, which is best suited for you
Drawbacks
  • It may cost more, to set up the infrastructure
  • There is a sharp learning curve if you wish to switch from the web to mobile web development
  • It may not turn out cost friendly if you wish to get all the needed licenses and certificates for tools, code, and software
  • You need to find the project manager or manage the whole project on your own
  • If your in-house developers get stuck somewhere, you would need to find the additional resources like developers, tester, seniors and more.
  • If the developers are on hiring cycle, again and again, it is necessary to keep the app up-to-date with all the updates
  • Generally in-house resources are shifted to other profitable projects

Mobile Apps development: Outsourcing

Advantages
  • You can get the developer experts by selecting the best enterprise
  • Static Budget is defined for every department
  • The firm has different people with different departments so that one remains always focused on different task
  • Experts can leverage the experience from the other projects
  • Outsource mobile app development companies have tools and components on hand which will decrease the development time
  • It reduces risk, as fixed monthly salary and related monthly expenses are involved
  • Holiday benefits in case of some reasons
Drawbacks
  • You lose your control on your services
  • There is no IP ownership
  • Small changes take much time to implement
  • You get the less control over the prioritization of resources
  • It becomes high risk if you select the incorrect development firm
Today, in the smart digital world, mobile applications are the most regularly accessed. Customers, CEO, employees are the most utilized by the customers. They provide enormous usefulness, communication capacities, better probability and much more.

Individuals or companies who seek for the whether they should outsource mobile app development or appoint a professional mobile app developer, the perfect answer actually relies on the circumstances. If you know the individual who is an expert and can spread technical knowledge without much of efforts and also have a good hand in coding associated with hiring outsourced workers, it may be the best solution.

Oracle threatens to kill Java

Recently, it was reported that Oracle had stopped the development of Java Enterprise Edition which is, popular server-side platform for running Java applications. Java is the most popular language and is embedded with thousands of enterprise apps where customers had invested their time and money. The company had pulled off the funding and had also asked the developers to work on their other projects.

Decisions happened in the company were much opaque as the reason for this freeze is not yet revealed, and even the employees were not aware of such move. Before some period of time, Oracle also cut the cord of project which it couldn’t monetize and also restricted the open source project access for them. Global IT organizations are much reliant on Java and hence these would be very difficult for them.

Java is used by Google in Android language which seems to be the reason of this quarrels by Oracle. Oracle had spoiled its loyalty in whole java community towards java platform. As it is the open sourced platform, the entire java ecosystem is dependent on Oracle since more than 2 decades. Now, this would result in the slow updates and of course, security would matter the most, hence there will be the need to replace the millions of servers with Java EE embedded components. More dispute would arise due to it, which may result in the separation of oracle and java.

Oracle developed a very bad reputation amongst the developer’s community. Oracle also closed the button on development efforts into community-driven technologies like Open Solaris and OpenOffice.org. But, it is revealed that Oracle also had several reasons for not cutting the relations with Java. Oracle’s own software and services are dependent on Java, which leads to more than 70% of the revenue. If Oracle pulls up the ties with Java EE than, Oracle itself would be in heavy revenue loss. Additionally, Java had also invested much time, efforts and money for java programming language. Seeing all these issues, it seems that, Oracle would source Java EE as a third party developer keeping the standards of Java SE.

How will the Pokémon Go affect the future of mobile app development?

Pokémon Go is the augmented reality location based game developed by Niantic for Android and iOS. This game earned in millions of dollars in a very short period of time and has become much hyped among the teenagers to youths to oldies. Pokémon Go is the real episode that made everybody addicted. This game enables you to travel between real world and virtual world and helps you to discover the whole new ecosystem in the completely new world. The Gaming platform is developed in such a way that, it uses the real location to search for the Pokémon in the real world. It catches hundreds of species of Pokémon as you explore more and more surroundings.

This phenomenon was not at all believable before 6 months ago. It has fundamentally changed the way of thinking – “Technology interacts with the environment”. Isn’t that great?

Though its security is not so high according to the critics and as this app has been downloaded by millions of people there are issues of crashing servers. This has surely done the magic in the mobile app development industry and it is quite predicted that many app developers would surely be constantly focusing on developing the replica of Pokémon Go.

So let’s check out, what is exciting about Pokémon Go? Why has it got so much buzz in the mobile game industry?

Augmented Reality

This is one of the seamless virtual reality of the Pokémon Go and the reason for a high buzz. With this game, players can see the animated Pokémon on their mobile display, as they walk away to the surroundings. Additionally, users can get the Poke stops on the real physical places like monuments, landmarks and more. They can get out in the competition with other players by collecting the “Gyms”.

The Augmented Reality of this game depends on the GPS technology which is coating the instances of the existing world. This game happened in the “real world” is itself one of the biggest achievements and the reason for app popularity. Hence, in the coming era, there would be such type of augmented reality games, with just local check-ins to gain more power on this powerful feature.

In future, you can expect something unbelievable. Today developers presented an augmented reality by adding coats to the real world. The next generation might see the virtual reality (VR) where the new fancy world would be presented before your eyes.

Gamification

Gamification is the concept to be applied in designing the game to engage, motivate, and encourage people in achieving the goals. In Pokémon Go’s, when you walk at different landmarks and new places, it becomes the game and in this way, you can earn rewards and catch out the new Pokémon as you move along. Because of the gamified element, Pokémon Go game has been able to integrate the real and virtual world. And in future, there are high chances that developers would work and put high efforts in running this kind of application.

Unlimited Potential

There are many potential mobile apps with unlimited levels, amazing graphics and much more things to explore. But Pokémon Go is quite different from the other potential games. It literally keeps you addicted, engaged and keeps the users interested. The future of app development is quite clear from this scenario. It would be tailored, expanding and with practically unlimited potential, which keeps the users interested.

Perfect Learning Curve

Pokémon Go is the ideal learning curve for many developers and users. The standard learning curve is one that is easy to use, rewards user for investing their energy and discovering many complex mechanics. And Pokémon Go fits into this bracket, enabling the new users with the easy pickups, and rewards to the players who invest their time in learning the complex strategies. If you develop an app that is much simple, users might bounce your app. If much complexity is involved, users would run away and user base would never grow. In future, it is highly expected to see the amazing provisions.

Transactions

This is not the new concept for developing the game app in mobile. But Pokémon Go has taken some different approach in making it unique. In general game application, you can purchase the coins to get the lucky eggs, incentives and more. But this type of bonuses is not present in Pokémon Go. It is developed in such a nice way that, people would likely invest dollars as it has given the game they always love to play. Giving people what they want was always the first priority of the Pokémon Go game.

Whether you are using Pokémon Go or not, it has removed the boundary between real and virtual world. It has quite addictive features that increase users engagement. Some of its elements are to be expected to see featured in popular apps in near future. If you are looking for developing a mobile app or a game with unique and innovative features, you should approach a professional mobile app development company to achieve your goals!

"Android Nougat" - Google announced the official name of Android N

Finally, the suspense, curiosity, and the hype for the name of Android 7 or Android N came to an end. On 30th June 2016, Google officially announced its 7th version of its Android Operating System. The much awaited Android N is now named as “Android Nougat”. Check out the official video Android Nougat Statue Unwrapping.

There was a much hype created around the world for this name search. Also, a few days ago, Google jokingly confirmed Android N name as Namey McNameface. (Read my earlier blog covering this topic: http://hiren-it-consultant.blogspot.in/2016/06/google-android-n-namey-mcnameface.html)

A worldwide campaign was executed in which the Google fans participated with lots of enthusiasm. After revealing this name, hearts of many fans were broken into pieces, especially from India. Earlier in May Google invited their fans to suggest the names for Android N. And the response was flooded with the sweet treats named Neyaappam, Nankhatai, Nutella, Newyork cheesecake and to the surprise, there was the massive response from Indians. And finally, it came with the name as Nougat which is a hard chewy white or pink sweet food, usually containing nuts.

Currently, Google is headed by an Indian CEO Sundar Pichai, and thus many fans thought that company would name its new version with an Indian dessert. The most hyped name was Neyaappam which is traditional South Indian delicacy from Kerala. Several campaigns were run to vote for this name on the website androidneyyappam.com. This website even suggested the logo somewhat similar to this dessert dish.

The release for the Android N was initially announced in March 2016, and this current beta which is likely said to be stable is up with the improved notification, emoji’s, split-screen multitasking, security, interactive assistance service, better battery life and also revamped the feature of Doze which came in the previous year of Marshmallow update. And it also has the feature of Daydream which will be only supported for the day-dream handsets. Soon these features will be rolling in all the Android smartphones. It is said that the next nexus phone will be based on Android N.

Google jokingly confirms Android N name as Namey McNameface

As we all know, Android N still doesn’t have a name but seeing the past names, some intuitions do tell us that, “ N” will stand for some sort of sweet eateries right?

Recently, in the latest developer preview version of Android N, the name scheme took a new U turn. Android Authority reported that, if you tap on version option of Android N –located on settings, you will notice an “N” as a big letter with the name Namey McNameface.

This name was used with the reference from the past Boaty McBoatface name. This name was chosen for the British by the public #200 million research vessel in April. But at the end ship was named as Sir David Attenborough. That ship became very much popular as it operated undersea vehicle.

But do you really believe, Google would name its next version as “Namey Mcnameface”? Google is in too much love with the sweet treats, so still the perfect name is not yet knows.

The next Android N is expected to arrive in august or September, bringing the split screen mode, seamless OTA updates, new emoji’s, data saving mode and much more. You can download the latest version preview from the website.

Google introduces “Awareness API” to respond according to your environment

Have you ever wondered if your smartphone can sense where you are? What you’re doing? Or what’s your nearby location? Thought of capturing an image, including the weather information and also combining your current situation together? At the recent Google I/O conference, Google has announced new tools for developers that can be customized to respond to the user’s current situation.

Google is introducing its Awareness API to make the smart features accessible. Think of you are jogging and your music application opens an energetic music playlist. Now let’s consider another scenario where you are driving nearby to any pharmacy and if it is open, then your system application will prompt an alert.
Functions like user location, user activity, and nearby locations are also performed by the API. Earlier, combining these functions using multiple API slow down the device speed. Also, smartphone suffers battery draining and slow processing issues. With the introduction of Google’s Awareness API, all functions will now be flawlessly accessible by combining API’s. Also, data can be interoperated between the Google devices and Android smart wearables.

This new Awareness API contains two API’s, first is Fence API which identifies the user’s current situation and second is Snapshot API that requests the information about the user’s current context.

Few instances shared by the Google are:

  • Let’s say a weather application could easily sense Chrome cast plugged into your bedroom TV to display the current weather details on its screen.
  • Suppose an alarm clock can wake you up the next morning based on your last sleep time and when will be your first meeting will be on that day.
  • Even while jogging you forgot to put on your track application, then also the application automatically gets on.
For any app to succeed, it is important to define a smart business strategy, a professional UI/UX design and above all, an experienced android app development company to convert the idea into a working product!

Google launched a new release of Android Studio 2.2 Preview

Google launched its Android Studio 2.2 version with a bunch of improvements that are designed to enhance the application for development. According to Google, the new Android Studio version will have their emulators run faster on the device app. To make the developer experience easier is critical, however, Google provides faster build, test code and recording feature to run them locally or via. cloud test lab to enhance user experience.

A sneak peak of some of its new features:
  • New Layout: A new layout design is loaded with more features that makes easier for the developer to enhance their app development feature. With the new user interface, the designers can easily move the widgets by simply drag and drop action to the design surface or component tree mode. Also, the user can identify the spacing in the layout, edit system preference files and edit menu with UI builder and quick widget using the properties panel.

Google launched Android Studio 2.1 to support Android N development

Google has recently launched the latest version, Android Studio 2.1 integrated development environment (IDE). It offers support to build applications for its Android N Developer Preview versions for faster Instant Run and Preview. Earlier, in this year, Google has launched its first Android N Developer Preview followed by another Preview.

The Android Studio 2.1 version is supported by Linux, Mac and Windows. It can be downloaded from Android.com/SDK. The existing users of Android Studio can find this new version in their navigation menu:

Visit Check for Update [Windows/Linux] under Help Menu and Check for Check for Updates on [OS X] under Android Studio.

The developers can now use the Preview SDK latest versions to work on Java, try new Jack Complier and use their hands on the official Android Emulator which also runs N Developer Preview Emulator System Images. Due to the availability of the new Jack compiler, developers can perform operations like compile-time type annotations, lambdas, intersection types, method references on all new versions of Android platform. The Android N version features only repeatable annotations and static methods.

Any change running on an emulator or your device can be easily notified by the Instant Run which streamlines the workflow. Using this, the user can easily identify the changes running “in a near instant”. This will enable the developer to code continuously and run the app. When the Instant Run is used, then it will analyze the changes and identify how a new code can be deployed in the quickest way. Instant Run is compatible with any Android device or an emulator running API 14 or higher version.

With the incremental Java compilation, Instant Run can quickly update incremental changes. Meaning that, a change in a single line of code does not require all Java sources of that module to be recompiled. Also, class files will not be converted to dex files to create dex processes separately. For this feature, user requires increasing Gradle daemon from 1GB to minimum 2GB.
