Android Security Annual report details current state of Android ecosystem

Recently Google reported annual report of android security which reveals how Google protects the Android ecosystem. Previous year when a report was revealed it analyzed billions of data gathered. And in this year, the goal was increased. The company says that it scanned 400 million devices daily, although it is not clear that, this scan were automated scan or the scans done by the user or the combination of both.


Google has been enhancing its service daily to protect Android users and identifying the harmful behavior. Google says that over the course of 2016, less that 0.15 PHA (potential harmful apps) were installed and if we include the third party apps than overall ratio comes to 0.5%. Additionally, Google Chrome's Safe Browsing feature was also mentioned to have protected the hundreds of millions of users of the Internet browser on Android devices.

When Android Marshmallow was introduced it included the high-security features to protect devices. Google also highlighted that security enhancements include, the requirement of full disk encryptions, updates to the app permission that allow the users to manage their data being shared and more. All these securities made sure that device is running perfectly.

Android’s security features are progressing, since when Google joined the Google’s vulnerability reward program. In these programs, researchers were paid when they found any bug and report to Google. It fixed 100 vulnerabilities that were revealed by them in Google bug joining program. Few goals to improve Android protection are transparency and security decisions. This annual android security report was developed to reveal that, the company is not just watering away deep public security threats. One of the instance: Stagefright exploit that would allow hackers to take over Android devices remotely in a matter of seconds.

Android lead security engineer Adrian Ludwig reported that "There is a fairly big disconnect between what's in the data and what's in the public discussion," He further added that part of what Google has been going to improve security is making improvements to the security updates process. According to the blog, recently Google launched public security update program, to the open source project and security life cycle update for nexus devices.

However, much of the efforts being forth by the Google for improving Android security, it is reported that millions of active Android devices are running on the versions of the operating system are not supported by the security patches that was released. If they continue to refuse for an update of the latest Android version, especially those users of such devices it would remain vulnerable to cyberattcks. Hence it seems on android that security researchers job is never done.

Google makes it easier to switch from iOS to Android with Google Drive backup tool.

In the Play Store, Apple has a switch tool which helps the Android users to switch to iOS. Unlike Google, this would be approved by the Apple bots in the App Store. With this, one can take the backup of your iPhone data to Drive, then restore it all on Android.


One can check out the new backup option in the iOS Drive app which is found under menu > settings > backup. On uploading all the backup on the Drive, it can grab your contacts, calendar events, and photos/videos. If you have lot of media files with more GB’s it will obviously take a lot more time to upload. For that Wi-Fi is needed for the backup to take place and the Drive app has to stay open. Unfortunately, there’s no option for backup.

The data from iOS will automatically be accessible in the corresponding apps, when one logs into their Google Account on a new Android phone. Unlike Pixel exclusive cable transfer tool, this process works with any Android phone.

Microsoft rolls out first SharePoint Server 2016 Feature Pack

It was recently reported that Microsoft includes new functionalities and features for the administrator and end-user customers. From the sight of administrators, Feature Pack1 adds more granular administrative-action logging and new MinRole capabilities goal at smaller user environments. 


End users enable an updated OneDrive for Business interface, custom files in the SharePoint app, a preview of SharePoint hybrid, and hybrid taxonomy, and OneDrive API for on-premises SharePoint. This is completely free for the SharePoint users, but some features like new OneDrive for Business support are for the Software Assurance Customers only.

This feature pack was available to MSDN and volume licensees starting in May. During that time, officials said that they planned to make at least one feature pack with the new updates for the SharePoint available in 2017.

Company officials revealed that SharePoint Server 2016 won’t be the last on-premises release of SharePoint. In between the two to three years likely between full-blown releases, the company is expected to update the on-premises version with Feature Packs.

Microsoft takes a swipe at salesforce with Dynamics 365 release

Microsoft recently unveiled Dynamics 365, the Redmond-Wash-Based giant on its promised date. All you need to know about iPhone 8

Next Apple phone may be called the iPhone 8 according to the recent reports and the handset is expected to feature a new face which has almost entirely taken up the display. Home button would go away anyway and there are plenty of justification to support the same idea but yet there are no pieces of evidence that the top bezel of the handset would also be removed.


The bottom bezel only houses the home button, which means that Apple can turn that unused real estate into screen space by burying the button under the display. And the apple patents already proved that currently, such technology is in development.

But the top bezel is likely more complex as it contains many things that include a light sensor, proximity sensor, front speaker, and front-facing camera. To get rid of the top bezel, Apple needs to add this features to a display. But if they reduce the size only some components need to be moved.

Some of the news discovered by the Apple Insider revealed that Apple is looking to relocate the front-facing sensors to beneath the display and hence it seemed that Apple is now not satisfied with the bezels on the iPhone. But in reality, the technology would not accommodate Apple’s design ideas.

Interestingly, it also seemed that the next iPhone will have OLED display rather than LCD display. The details will be included in the next-gen iPhone. Google is working on a MacBook killer with a special breed of Android

Google has recently started the campaign where the pixels of the smartphones can be seen. But Google is not planning to announce in the early phase of the October. The vital thing that the company undertakes is Andromeda operating system, a merger between Android and Chrome OS. 


Andromeda is not a proper name, but rather one can say it is an internal codename for initial process, which would represent the major shift in the Android strategy. Google will be able to make out the best from both the worlds and release other types of Android devices, which also incorporates better laptops and tablets. The news was revealed that the first laptop running Andromeda will come out the next summer.

As per the report, it was said that the Android Police will release the Pixel3 laptop and is set to arrive in the third quarter of 2017. Internally the project is called as Bison and laptop would be the first showcase on the Android Google.

Android Police quotes that, “Bison then would be a culmination of years work by Google’s Pixel team and Google’s Android and Chrome OS teams”.

For now, the specifications of Bison includes a 12.3-inch display with the touch support, Intel m3 or i5 Core processors, 32GB to 128GB storage, 8GB to 16GB RAM, finger print scanner, USB C-connectivity, 3.5mm headphone jack, stylus support, stereo speakers, quad microphones, backlit keyboards and more. It also has 10mm thickness which made it a 12-inch MacBook.

The most important thing about the Bison is that, it sell for just $799, according to the information available to the Android Police a time. The scenario would be different after some years and there are the chances that Google could even cancel the product. But this MacBook seems to be quite interesting.

Google launches “Google Trip”: Personalized travel planner

Recently, Google launched a new mobile application developed with a sole goal to develop a better plan for your holidays and other trips so – called Google Trips. Built-in iOS and Android, the app pulls off the combination of data from the Google Maps and other travelers to offer the personalized travel guide which would help in tracking the day trips, reservations, interests, restaurants and more.


It was much-rumored news that Google was working on travel application, within Google’s Local Guides community. Local Guides aids in improving the Google Maps and business data by writing a review, correcting listings and taking photos. In return, they gain exclusive access to try our new Google products and features such as Google Trips. The app looks today much like it did then.

The home screen is integrated with the search box flashing with the message “Where do you want to go?” for planning new trips and other cards which enable to track your current and upcoming vacations and plans.

The most helpful thing about this application is that each city you plan to visit during one of your trips can each have its own tab within a larger trip section and toggle buttons to download the information about the destination with offline access.

Meanwhile, on each city’s screen, different color cards enables you to jump into various interfaces like “Saved places”, “Day plans”, “Food and Drink” and more.

App also makes the suggestions for the information collected. Google also revealed that Trips can show you the most popular day plans and itineraries for the 200 cities worldwide. This information is actually based on historic visit data from other travelers which Google has used and infuses the important sights and attractions.

The interesting thing to note is that how this crowded information is mapped with the information pulled from Google Maps which aid you in finding things of your planned sightseeing destinations. 

You can add the destinations to your plans and you can also tell the app if you have only morning or noon available to go out. The app is able to show you the different spots in your convenient time. The app can also show some attractions of the original place so that you do not need to travel far.

Additionally, there is some automation involved in the app, you can pin the spots you want to visit, and Google will automatically fill the rest of the day in the itinerary. Magic Wand button is available, which you can automatically tap for nearby insights and will automate customize the itinerary for you. 

Though the new app is useful for the travelers it will also serve as the other means of collecting data for Google itself which will be able to bear the business listing of data in the Google maps with the information collected by the app and its user.
